Bord na Móna were very happy recently to be able to accommodate Uisce Eireann on a visit to Ummeras Bog, where the group considered possible water quality benefits from rehabilitated peatlands and the impact rehabilitation may have on raw water quality intake at the nearby Srowland Water Treatment Plant which is operated by Veolia.

Uisce Eireann’s Integrated Catchment Management Team has been engaging with Bord na Mona to understand how bog rehabilitation can lead to water quality improvements in their source waters.

Enda McDonagh from Bord na Mona is pictured above describing the rehabilitation process at Ummeras bog and across other bogs.

The Bord na Mona group also had a tour of that water treatment facility and got to see and hear the significant costs, controls and measures required to bring Barrow raw water to potable standards, most of which are impacted by the variability of raw water quality.
